Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium will be on the international stage this year, as it hosts several matches in the FIFA World Cup 2026.
For this year’s World Cup, there will be 16 host cities across North America, including Foxborough. Gillette, which will be temporarily renamed to Boston Stadium during the event, will be hosting seven matches from June 11 through June 19.
So, how does the World Cup stand to benefit Foxborough, Boston and Massachusetts as a whole economically? While there certainly is cost involved in hosting such a massive sporting event that promises to bring thousands of tourists from all over the world, local businesses stand to benefit from the influx, economists say.
