Club Brugge are close to completing the signing of West Ham United midfielder Freddie Potts.
Potts, 22, made 26 first team appearances last season, including 12 starts in the Premier League. His minutes during the second half of the campaign were more limited, however, and he featured just once from the bench during West Ham’s final five top-flight matches as the club were relegated to the Championship.
The West Ham academy product is now nearing a move to Belgium, with an announcement expected in the coming days.
His contract at West Ham was due to run until 2029, with the option of a further year, having last signed fresh terms in March 2025.
Potts has had successful loan spells in the English Football League (EFL), and had experience playing at Championship level through his year-long stay with Portsmouth in 2024-25, where he made 37 league appearances and helped the club to safety.
Potts was also named Wycombe Wanderers’ player of the season following his loan spell in 2023-24.
He made his West Ham debut in 2021 and featured twice during the club’s run to winning the Conference League under David Moyes in 2022-23.
Potts is the son of West Ham legend Steve Potts, who made over 500 appearances for the club, having also come through the academy.
Following their relegation to the Championship, West Ham have recuperated around £140million in the sales of Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur and Crysencio Summerville to Al Hilal. Club captain Jarrod Bowen, however, has committed his immediate future to the club by signing a revised contract.
The 2026-27 campaign marks the first time West Ham have dropped below the Premier League since the 2011-12 campaign.
Club Brugge, meanwhile, will play Champions League football once again next season, after winning the Belgian Pro League. Their season begins on August 7 against KV Kortrijk.
