Given all of the Texans’ pass defense firepower, this could be a big game for James Cook and the Bills’ running game. Third-down back Ty Johnson is out with a hamstring injury, forcing the Bills to elevate Frank Gore Jr. from the practice squad, but a savvy way to counter a Texans front that sacked Josh Allen eight times last year and a secondary that collected three takeaways would be to pound the ball effectively. Cook led the NFL is rushing last year. He ran 17 times for 116 yards, including a 45-yard TD run, in the Week 13 loss to Houston.
“We’re going to be the Buffalo Bills,” left guard Alec Anderson said. “We’re going to do what we want, whether that be run the ball or pass the ball.”
“We might just choose to run the f— out of the ball. That will define our season, that we have our Weapon-X, and that’s Josh Allen, but you don’t want to use your weapon every single play. Why not use another weapon like James Cook? It will be a great year to really put an entire offense together.”
