With 42 goals in 79 appearances for his country, Jonathan David is considered one of Canada’s greatest players.
The striker’s career had been on an upward trajectory, earning him a move from Gent to Lille and then to Juventus in July 2025. However, after a disappointing debut season in Turin, David managed just eight goals in all competitions, with Juventus also missing out on Champions League qualification.
Nevertheless, from an international perspective, David remains indispensable to Canada, as reinforced by his treble against Qatar.
The 26-year-old was substituted after an hour against Bosnia and Herzegovina when his side were looking for an equaliser, but ensured there would be no repeat in the following outing.
