Now that we know the Celtics are getting the most favorable of 2028 first-round picks between the 76ers and Clippers, unprotected, and the 76ers unprotected 2031 first-rounder, I understand the Jaylen Brown trade a bit more for Boston.
It’s not the deal I would have gone for, necessarily, but those are highly valued draft picks. The Clippers are entering a strange era over the next couple of years as they try to rebuild after trading Kawhi Leonard. Meanwhile, the 76ers look more questionable in five years, when Brown will be 35 and Joel Embiid will be 37.
Rival teams will value those draft picks an awful lot on the trade market if Boston decides to turn around and cash those in before ever selecting a player.
