A few days after trading Kayshon Boutte – and less than a week since Mike Vrabel proclaimed that this isn’t a deep football team – it’s a really good sign for the Patriots that Kyle Williams continued his strong preseason with a 45-yard touchdown reception.
Williams hasn’t shined when with the starters during training camp practices, but even if his role is limited to just being a deep threat guy, he’s showing that he can contribute a few snaps per game.
For now, he’ll enter the regular season behind A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, and Mack Hollins on the depth chart.
But after jettisoning Boutte, who was their deep-threat guy, it’s a positive sign that Williams is showing up.
