Even NFL fans have low expectations for the quality of preseason games. Players on the third-string or lower take many of the snaps, and penalties and mistakes abound as teams sharpen into regular-season shape.
That said, this year’s Hall of Fame Game exceeded expectations. After a scoreless first quarter, the Cardinals and Panthers each tallied 17 points in the second quarter. The scoring picked back up in the fourth quarter, with scores on all five of the teams’ combined possessions and a game-winning touchdown on the last play of the game by Panthers rookie quarterback Haynes King.
