EA Sports on Monday unveiled its latest class of the Madden 99 Club, featuring six players who received the video game’s illustrious “99” rating. Half of the players in the Madden NFL 27 class — Myles Garrett, Ja’Marr Chase and Josh Allen — are carryovers from last year.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson and Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson all achieved a 99 rating in last year’s game, but did not repeat to open this year.

As was the case last year, Garrett is the only defensive player to make the cut. No defensive player made the 99 Club in the initial Madden NFL 25 rankings, but prior to that, former Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald had seven consecutive years with a “99” rating — the longest streak in the history of the video game. (Former QB Peyton Manning had a run of six straight 99 Club appearances during the late 2000s and into the early 2010s.)
For Garrett, who is coming off a season in which he won his second Defensive Player of the Year award after setting the NFL’s single-season sacks record, this is his third appearance overall in the 99 Club. In addition to this year and last year, he also got the top rating in Madden NFL 23. It’s the second consecutive year with a “99” ranking for both Chase and Allen, and their second time each overall.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is making his first appearance on the list, as he goes into his 18th season. Last season marked the veteran’s first time winning league MVP honors — he threw for 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns during the regular season, then led the Rams to the NFC Championship game.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the youngest player in this year’s class, both in age and NFL experience. The 23-year-old wide receiver had a breakout 2025 season for the Seahawks, catching 119 passes for a league-leading 1,793 yards receiving in his third year in the NFL. He played a vital role in quarterback Sam Darnold’s success, and in the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl.
Cardinals tight end Trey McBride proved to be a bright spot for a team otherwise plagued with issues all over the field. Despite dealing with inconsistency at quarterback and wide receiver, a running back depth chart decimated by injuries and a head coach who was fired at season’s end, McBride set an NFL single-season record for tight ends with 126 receptions (three shy of the league’s top overall mark last season, held by Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua). His 11 touchdown receptions tied for second in the NFL, and his 169 targets ranked third.
EA Sports will present each member of the Madden NFL 2027 initial 99 Club with a glass trophy, designed by artist Victor Solomon, featuring a “Player Issue, 99 Club” Topps card.
