Not totally enamoured with England‘s substitutes’ bench.
Obviously there are some players out with injury, like Reece James and Declan Rice, but it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence compared to say Spain, who brought on brilliant technicians like Alex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal and changed the match.
Trevoh Chalobah has real question marks at international level, Rio Ngumoha is promising but raw, James Garner is workmanlike and prosaic compared to the talents of the playmaking Adam Wharton, who has been left out.
Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze do offer game-changing options in attacking midfield, but are unlikely to play at the same time unless Eze is shunted out to the left, while Jarrad Branthwaite’s inclusion is long overdue.
It would be good to see the gifted Everton centre-half get some game time, in the absence of fellow left-footed defender Levi Colwill, who could and should also be in the squad.
