The 2026 U.S. Open singles competitions are underway from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
Novak Djokovic (4) is down a set after losing the tiebreak to Mariano Navone. Djokovic, who hasn’t lost in the first round of a Slam since 2006, struggled physically during the first set and had to receive tablets during a changeover.
Earlier today, Jessica Pegula and Daniil Medvedev both won their first-round matches in straight sets. Play on the outer courts this evening has been suspended due to rain, with the affected matches moved to tomorrow. To close out Day 1, Venus Williams will take on Sofia Kenin in her return to Flushing Meadows.
